How do artists show us the water cycle?

Residency: Jackson Elementary School, Hillsboro, OR (first grade)

2013

1st graders at Jackson Elementary learned about water cycles as part of their Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) curriculum. Students began by viewing water in its various states through the microscope. They then experimented with different approaches to printmaking in order depict small and large forms of water. They made relief prints using styrofoam plates and collograph plates using recycled materials. The final prints were mounted in a collaborative display, creating a full representation of the water cycle.
