Exhibition at 12x16 Gallery, May 2014.
Cartographic Alterations experiments with our human urge to chart our surroundings. The work in this exhibition employs the language of cartography yet pushes it further into abstraction by dissecting, reconstructing and redrawing maps in combination with satellite images or tiny details of places recorded on site. Works include both oil paintings, which blend maps of Oregon with images of the landscape taken by Google maps, and mixed media quilts which layer together satellite images of places with rubbings and tracings collected on the ground.
